The Zen Master, born in 1926, studied and practiced Zen Buddhism in Hue from 1942. He then established Plum Village Monastery in France and Zen Buddhism Practice Centers in many countries like the US, Germany, and Thailand. While living abroad, he returned to Vietnam several times to give lectures on mindfulness and peace. In 2017 he returned to live out his last days at Tu Hieu temple.
Also a poet and peace activist, he was the author of more than 100 books, including the bestselling 'The Miracle of Mindfulness'.
His funeral will take place on Sunday at Tu Hieu Temple under a silent Zen practice. His body will be cremated next Saturday.
