Youth rally in response to World No Tobacco Day

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnamese communities, especially young people, are discouraged from using tobacco as a rally was held in Da Nang city in response to World No Tobacco Day on May 31 and National No Tobacco Week.

The theme of the this year’s campaign is “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.”

Speaking at the rally, Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, said that the Youth Union has coordinated with the health sector to advocate the harmful effects of tobacco and disseminate the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control. 

“Today’s rally is aimed at the community, especially young people, with a smoke-free message, even those who have used tobacco will stop using tobacco. In addition, we encourage and organize more sports, cultural and artistic activities for young people to participate in, with the ultimate goal of minimizing their access to tobacco and other addictive substances,” Mr. Triet said. 

After the rally, the Youth Union organized the online race “Vietnamese Youth say no to tobacco, e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products”, involving 1,000 young people. The race is operated on the Strava app until June 26 for Vietnamese people of all ages.
