Yemeni government demands new peace plan

(VOVworld) – The Yemeni Foreign Minister, Abdul Malik Al Mekhlafi, said the government has demanded a new peace plan after rejecting the UN’s latest proposal suggesting the internationally-recognized President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi turn his power over to a new Vice President and assume a figurehead role.

Mr. Al Mekhlafi said any settlement that reinforces a coup or rewards the rebels will not be successful. The government said discussing moving Hadi out of power was “out of the question” until the Houthis respected previous peace agreements and a new president was elected afterwards.
