(VOVworld) - Plans for peace talks involving all parties in the Yemen conflict scheduled for next week in Geneva were put on hold as fire exchanges resume.

UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said Monday that the fighting must be decisively stopped to organize and invite people to the conference. He added UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon regretted there was no extension of the five-day humanitarian ceasefire which ended last Sunday in Yemen.

Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to late Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called for a Yemeni national dialogue in a neutral country instead of in Saudi Arabia.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said an international organization need to take responsibility for extending the ceasefire in Yemen and it’s time for the UN to control the situation in Yemen.

Zarif urged the UN to establish a safe zone to support aid cargo for Yemenis.
