The two sides will exchange nearly 3,000 prisoners. Yemen’s government will release 1,700 Houthi detainees, while the Houthis will free 1,200 prisoners. Those set to be released by the Houthis include seven citizens of Saudi Arabia and 23 from Sudan. The timing of the exchange has not yet been announced.
The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, welcomed the agreement, calling it a positive step toward ending the war in Yemen and easing the suffering of prisoners and their families.
