The statement highlights maintaining communication channels with China to minimize the risk of miscalculation. The EC spokesperson said the EU encourages peaceful settlement of issues across the Taiwan Strait and that the EU had “a clear One China Policy”, recognizing the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong reaffirmed support for the One China policy, urged all sides to reduce tensions, and called for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait without unilateral change of the status quo.

On Wednesday, the General Administration of Customs of China (GAC) announced that mainland China will suspend the import of citrus fruits and two types of fish products from China’s territory of Taiwan as of Wednesday.

On the same day, the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOC) said the export of natural sand from mainland China to Taiwan will be suspended from today (August 3).
