(VOVworld) – The Ebola epidemic in West Africa is killing more than 200 people a day, two-thirds of them women and children despite valiant efforts by local governments and health workers, said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at a meeting on Ebola Thursday on the sidelines of the annual UN General Asembly session. The meeting was attended by US President Barack Obama, representatives from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, and other world leaders.

Numerous countries have acted to slow the spread of Ebola by closing border gates, canceling flights, and pulling back ships from the ports of Ebola-infected nations. But, according to Ban, these bans have strained the situation. He said Ebola-infected nations “must not be isolated” because they now need international support more than ever.
