The report called Vietnam a regional leader in disaster risk management and said current measures taken by the Vietnamese Government are quite impressive. However, it said the measures are not sufficient as two-thirds of Vietnam’s sea dyke system, which spans more than 2,000 km, do not meet government safety standards.

Rapid urbanization, economic development, and climate change are the reasons for these risks, the report said. To ensure successful development, Vietnam should consider a more systematic recovery strategy in agriculture, aquaculture, tourism, public services, education, and healthcare.
