(VOVworld) – The United National has congratulated the Vietnamese Government for its achievements in HIV/AIDS response and called for more effective investment in HIV/AIDS prevention to fulfill related national and international target programs. Dr. Kristan Schoultz, UNAIDS Vietnam Country Director, says in recent years Vietnam has expanded the program on HIV-resistant therapy, which helps contain the epidemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on Vietnam to continue efforts to provide high risk groups with better access to such services as prevention of HIV infection, HIV treatment, care and assistance.

According the Ministry of Health, by June 2013 the number of people living with HIV in Vietnam was 213,000. The methadone treatment program is viewed as having initial success.

Provinces across Vietnam are marking World Aids Day.

In Dien Bien and Phu Yen provinces, meetings were held on Sunday to respond to the month of action against HIV/AIDS. 3,000 young campaigners have visited local households in Dien Bien Phu city to inform them of how to prevent and fight HIV/AIDS.
