(VOVWORLD) - The White Ribbon Breakfast was held in Ho Chi Minh city on Friday, highlighting the role of media in promoting gender equality and elimination of violence against women.

Starting in 1991, the White Ribbon Campaign is a global movement of men and boys working to end male violence against women and girls. The campaign was intended to raise awareness about the prevalence of male violence against women, with the ribbon symbolizing "the idea of men giving up their arms".

Mr. Le Van Thinh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said: “The White Ribbon Breakfast aims to disseminate information about gender-based violence prevention for people from the perspective of gender equality, creating a safe and friendly living environment for everyone, including women and children who are living, studying and working in Ho Chi Minh City.”

In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City has worked with international organizations in Vietnam to implement gender equality, prevent and respond to gender-based violence. It has also helped create and implement communication models and initiatives to promote gender equality and prevent and support victims of gender-based violence.
