Member of the Party Central Committee and VOV President Do Tien Sy, together with the leadership of VOV, representatives from ministries and central agencies, ambassadors and diplomatic missions, as well as representatives of international organizations in Vietnam attended in the event.

In her opening remarks, Director of VOVWorld Pho Cam Hoa reviewed the department’s 80-year journey, which began on the same day VOV was founded, September 7, 1945. From initial broadcasting in English, French, and Cantonese (China), VOVWorld is now producing content in 13 languages.

“Throughout its journey, VOVWORLD has consistently upheld the power of external communication, delivering timely and accurate information about a courageous, resilient Vietnam, a peace-loving nation aspiring to stand shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the five continents. Through its broadcasts, audiences worldwide have come to better understand and appreciate Vietnam – its hardworking, intelligent, dynamic people; its tradition of unity and compassion; and its rich, distinctive culture. That understanding and appreciation have translated into support for Vietnam, both during its struggle for independence and on its present path of renewal and development,” said Mrs. Hoa.

Sharing her memories of working in external information broadcasting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, former Director of VOVWorld said: “Looking back on my 33-year journey, I feel truly fortunate and proud to have lived, worked, and devoted myself to VOV, a home that has united generations of broadcasters, nurturing in us ideals, professional passion, and national pride. Those 33 years were my life’s devotion to the profession: years filled with memories, youthful energy, dedication, and bold endeavors. It was also the place where I received abundant affection, collegial unity, and human warmth that helped me grow and mature..”
At the ceremony, VOV presented the awards for the 2025 ‘What Do You Know About Vietnam?” contest. Organized by VOV every five years since 1985, the contest has become a distinctive hallmark of the station.

VOV Vice President Ngo Minh Hien, Chairman of the Contest Jury, said: “This year, we received more than 340 entries from listeners in 32 countries and territories, the highest number since the contest began. The 9th ‘What Do You Know about Vietnam?’ contest, in 2025, is not only a measure of how much our international friends know about Vietnam, but also a reflection of their affection for VOV. Today’s winners are more than champions of the contest - they are true ‘ambassadors of friendship,’ bringing with them the goodwill of peoples from across continents to VOV in particular, and to peace-loving Vietnam as a whole.”

The top winners are Rudy Hartono of Indonesia, Vicentiu Daniel Gheorghe of Romania, and Oikawa Kazuaki of Japan, who are enjoying a 5-day trip in Vietnam as their prizes. The Organizing Committee also presented 10 Consolation Prizes and 5 additional prizes to collectives and individuals participating in the contest.

Congratulating the Voice of Vietnam and VOVWorld on the 80th founding anniversary, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam, Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, said: “VOV and VOVWORLD embody Vietnam’s respected effort to build bridges of friendship with the world. Born in the fervent days of Vietnam’s struggle for independence, and having accompanied the nation through liberation, reunification, and reconstruction, VOV and VOVWORLD have, for 8 decades, carried a powerful message of peace.”

VOV President Do Tien Sy praised VOVWorld's remarkable development over the past years, urging VOVWorld to continue to uphold the motto “Solidarity – Professionalism – Integration – Innovation – Development” in the new era.
“To maintain its role as Vietnam’s flagship overseas radio broadcaster and remain competitive with regional and global counterparts in the era of social media and digital technology, its leaders must demonstrate strategic vision and keep pace with global trends to chart a clear course for future development. VOVWORLD broadcasters must excel, not only in journalism and languages but also in technology. Mastering new tools and making optimal use of artificial intelligence has become essential. More importantly, they must be capable of taking full control of these technologies. VOVWORLD journalists must strengthen unity and professionalism, and continually innovate their programs to achieve deeper international integration and greater growth,” said Mr. Sy
At the ceremony, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education and Mass Mobilization, and the Ministry of National Defense presented Certificates of Merit to VOVWorld in recognition of its contributions to external information and communication work.
