(VOVWORLD) - Informing fishermen about regulations on illegal, unreported, unregulated (IUU) fishing and sustainable development of the fisheries industry is the aim of the volunteer campaign "Green March 2024”, launched by the navy force and the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Youth Union on Sunday.

This campaign to raise awareness, sense of responsibility, and determination to work with functional forces and local authorities is part of the effort to lift the EC’s yellow card imposed on Vietnamese seafood.

At the launch ceremony in Long Hai town in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, organizers distributed 50 life jackets, 50 national flags, and leaflets about the Prime Minister's directive on sanctioning administrative violations in the fisheries sector.

Lieutenant Colonel Phan Dinh Hoang, Deputy Secretary of Navy Squadron 129's Youth Union, said that the squadron’s youth members are fully aware of the purpose, requirements, and plan of coordinating with the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Youth Union in implementing the Vietnam People's Navy program.

“The youths operating at sea do a good job of disseminating maritime law to fishermen, helping them repair damage, and providing free fresh water and other necessities. We’re ready to perform search and rescue operations at sea,” said Hoang.

After the launch ceremony, Squadron 129’s youth union members and young people from Long Hai town performed a clean-up at Long Hai beach.
