The Government, however, pointed out challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and regional and global uncertainties. PM Pham Minh Chinh asked ministries and agencies to quickly return to work right after the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday and speed up the disbursement of public investments.

The macro-economy remained stable and inflation increased 0.66% year-on-year.

The numbers of newly-registered enterprises and those resuming their operations rose 29% and 194%, respectively, from the same period last year. This was the highest-ever rise, reflecting the business community’s confidence in the national economy’s prospects this year, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son said.

Total import-export turnover in January was estimated at more than 58 billion USD, up 6.3% year-on-year.

More than 115 million USD has been allocated to help disadvantaged people and policy beneficiaries enjoy happy Tet, traditional Lunar New Year Festival.
