Vietnam’s Global Innovation Index improves: Minister of Science and Technology

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s Global Innovation Index (GII) increased 3 notches to 42 in 2018, the highest among lower middle income countries, said Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh.

Mr. Anh told the ongoing 59th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly in Geneva on Monday that the Vietnam will submit documents on joining The Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs. Speaking at the opening of the conference attended by more than 1,000 delegates from 191 member countries, Minister Anh said ASEAN countries have pushed up initiatives to catch up with the 4th Industrial Revolution. After Malaysia submits its documents on joining the Madrid Protocol on International Registration of Marks at this WIPO General Assembly, the number of ASEAN members of the protocol will total 9.

During a meeting with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry on the sidelines of the Assembly, Minister Anh submitted Vietnam’s documents on joining The Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs to Mr. Gurry. Vietnam is now a member of all 3 treaties on international registration for innovations, trademarks, and designs administered by WIPO.
