(VOVworld) – Authorities and residents of Vietnam’s central regions are taking precautions as super typhoon Utor and a tropical low pressure are approaching. Precautions include fortifying houses, checking docks, and stockpiling food in case of long-lasting rain and flood. Most inshore fishing vessels of Ly Son island, Quang Ngai province, are already safely anchored. The local Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has informed fishing unions to direct fishermen to avoid collision of boats caused by gale force winds. The food stockpile is large enough to feed the locals for 1 month. Pham Thi Huong, Vice Chairwoman of Ly Son district People's Committee, told VOV: "45 tons of rice and medicine have been reserved for all residents, particularly those from the isolated island commune An Binh. The district’s leaders are tasked with monitoring the storm’s development and keeping in touch with operating fishing vessels".

In the island commune of Tan Hiep, Hoi An town, Quang Nam province, fishing vessels are still in operation. 1,000 tourists are currently visiting the island. Local authorities and residents have been preparing for the storm. They have cooperated with soldiers of the Cu Lao Cham border post to stockpile food and help people fortify houses.

Super typhoon Utor is strengthening as it approaches, with winds up to 180 km/hour. Meanwhile the tropical low pressure is dumping heavy rain in Vietnam’s Central Highlands and southern region.
