Vietnamese, Thai top legislators pledge stronger cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Thailand have agreed on major directions to bring the role of the two countries’ legislatures into play in strengthening mutual trust and promoting bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

During their talks in Bangkok on Thursday, Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman, Vuong Dinh Hue and Speaker of Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand Wan Muhamad Noor Matha agreed to strengthen delegation exchanges in all channels of the Party, State, Government, and NA, including people-to-people exchanges, effectively implement cooperative mechanisms, and accelerate the Action Program to implement the enhanced Strategic Partnership for the 2022 – 2027 period.

The two sides aim to raise two-way trade to 25 billion USD and guide it in a more balanced direction. They will remove trade barriers and create a favorable environment for each country’s businesses.

The two sides also committed to promoting cooperation in national defense, security, maritime presence, education, training, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

They will continue to closely coordinate at regional and global forums while promoting ASEAN’s solidarity and central role in regional issues and also coordinate together in the management and sustainable use of Mekong River water resources.

Vietnam and Thailand reaffirmed the importance of maintaining solidarity and ASEAN’s common stance on the East Sea issue.
