50 years ago, under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, headed by Kaysone Phomvihane, the Lao people revolted, overthrew the monarchy, liberated the country from the domination of feudalism, imperialism, and colonialism, and founded the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the article said.
This milestone opened a new era in the land of Champa flowers – an era of independence and freedom, of building an equitable and civilised society where Lao ethnic groups could be the masters of their own destiny.
After 40 years of implementing a renewal policy, Laos transformed itself from an agricultural economy under blockade and embargo that was primarily an importer into an economically independent and self-reliant nation that now exports its agricultural products. Socio-political stability, national defence, and security have been maintained, the economy has grown, and the standard of living has steadily improved.
50 years has been a sufficiently long time to demonstrate the mettle, wisdom, and leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party as the decisive factor in all the victories of the Lao revolution, the triumph of national liberation, national construction and defence, and the many brilliant milestones in the proud history of the Lao nation and people, according to General Secretary To Lam’s article.
