(VOVworld) - The number of Vietnam-invested projects in Cambodia has doubled since mid-2009 with the total capital rising five hundred percent. The data was released at a meeting in Hanoi yesterday between the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Nguyen Van Binh, and Vietnamese investors in Cambodia. Vietnam now ranks fourth among foreign investors in Cambodia after China, the Republic of Korea, and Australia. Last year Vietnamese businesses poured more capital into such areas as banking, securities, energy, tourism, hotel, and transportation. Vietnam now has five large banks operating in Cambodia, with total registered capital of more than US$116 million. Governor Binh says the State Bank will allow more commercial banks to open branches in Cambodia to provide capital support for Vietnamese investors. Mr. Binh says 'The State Bank of Vietnam is promoting the operations of Vietnamese credit institutions in Cambodia. We intend to establish branches of 10 leading Vietnamese commercial banks in this market'.
