Austin said that ensuring security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region remains the fundamental guiding principle of the US national security policy. He noted that it’s important to resolve disputes through diplomatic and peaceful solutions.
Austin highlighted its current cooperation with partners in the region, including Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, and the ASEAN, saying that the US is making efforts to prevent tensions in the East Sea, and maintain a significant role in the “free and open” Indo-Pacific region, and envisioning a brighter future for all regional nations to develop together.
