In capital Ottawa, ambassador To Anh Dung briefed participants on the latest developments in the East Sea after China placed its floating drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 deep inside Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in early May. He elaborated on Vietnam’s goodwill towards resolving the dispute with China, including the operation of Vietnamese law enforcement forces at sea, and the embassy’s activities in garnering international support for Vietnam’s stance. He called on Vietnamese expatriates in Canada to uphold the Vietnamese tradition of mutual assistance by responding to the fund-raising campaign in support of the Vietnam Coast Guard, Fisheries Surveillance Force and fishermen.
