The Foreign Investment Agency said Vietnamese firms have so far invested about 9 billion USD in more than 1,000 overseas projects. The investment has been channeled mainly into agriculture, telecommunications, and IT. In Japan, Vietnamese businesses have invested 7 million USD in approximately 40 projects. Japan ranks 45th out of 68 countries and territories in which Vietnamese investors do business. Do Nhat Hoang, head of the Foreign Investment Agency, said the Japanese market has a potential for greater cooperation and investment: “We have cooperated with JETRO to help Vietnamese businesses invest in Japan and develop sectors of Vietnam’s strength such as technology, and software. By investing in Japan, we can draw on their technology, training, and production for export and improve business efficiency in Vietnam”.
Atsusuke Kawada, Chief Representative of the Japan External Trade Organization in Hanoi, said this is the first workshop to introduce Japan’s investment environment and JETRO’s support for Vietnamese enterprises.
