(VOVworld) – A large number of Vietnamese people in Russia gathered in Moscow on Sunday to protest China’s illegal placement of oil rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

Representative of the Vietnamese Association in Russia Nguyen Quoc Hung read a statement expressing the association’s support for the Party and state policy and unity with people at home, particularly law enforcement forces on duty at sea. Vice President of the Thanh Hoa Province Fellow Countrymen Ha Xuan Thanh said:“We strongly oppose China’s actions and demand that it withdraw oil rig Haiyang 981 from Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. The people of Thanh Hoa in Russia have raised funds to support Vietnamese marine police and fishermen in protecting our national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The Vietnamese embassy and the Vietnamese Association in Russia have called for donations to support Vietnamese marine law enforcement forces.
