Vietnamese Ambassador presides over UNSC meeting on Mali

(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council (UNSC) met on Wednesday to look into Mali’s political and security situation, presided over by Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the UN.

Participants heard the UN Chief’s report on recent events in Mali and operations of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission (MINUSMA) there.

Ambassador Quy shared the concern of the UN Secretary General and other countries over worsening security in Mali and strongly denounced attacks on civilians, security forces in Mali, and the MINUSMA. He stressed that the full realization of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali is necessary and important to maintaining peace and security in Mali. Mr. Quy called on relevant parties to continue their dialogues in accordance with the document. The ambassador also appealed to the concerned sides to fulfill their task of protecting innocent people, especially women and children, while enhancing women’s full, practical and comprehensive engagement in the political and economic process in Mali. He urged support for the MINUSMA operation and international efforts to help the Malian government preserve world peace and security.
