(VOVWORLD) -A workshop on developing Vietnamese specialty coffee was held in Dal Lak province on Sunday as part of the 7th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival.

Vietnamese coffee is exported to 80 countries and territories. Last year the country exporter 1.9 million tons of coffee worth 3.5 billion USD, accounting for 14% of world market share and ranking 2nd in the world after Brazil. But Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association said Vietnam needs to do more to increase its coffee’s economic value: “Vietnam is late in entering the specialty coffee market, but we learn experience to produce high quality products, which will be sold at higher prices. The leading companies will help improve the quality of Vietnamese coffee in the world market.”

On Saturday night, Deputy Prime  Minister Truong Hoa Binh opened the 7th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2019 in Dak Lak province. Themed “Essence of mountains and forests”, the festival promotes Buon Ma Thuot coffee brands to the world. Mr. Binh applauded Dak Lak for developing the local coffee industry and contributing to grater prestige of Vietnamese coffee. He called for measures to be taken to capitalize on achievements:“The coffee industry should be developed in line with world market trend, ensure sustainable production conditions, combine preservation, processing, and consumption, attract private investment and re-cultivation of coffee. Technological application should be strengthened to increase productivity and quality, reduce prices, and adapt to climate change. Vietnamese high-quality coffee specialty should be encouraged to develop.”
