Vietnam works to build a stronger ASEAN Community

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended 2 sessions on ASEAN, received Angel Gurria, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Hiroyuki Ishige, Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Davos, on Saturday. 

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended 2 sessions on ASEAN, received Angel Gurria, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Hiroyuki Ishige, Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Davos, on Saturday. During sessions on ASEAN, Mr. Phuc said ASEAN needs to effectively implement the ASEAN Economic Community roadmap and take advantage of free trade agreements with partners to create investment and trade opportunities in the region. He highlighted Vietnam’s important and responsible contributions to ASEAN.

Receiving OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria, the Vietnamese Prime Minister said he hopes both sides will boost special cooperation in agriculture, climate change response, high-tech industry, supportive industry, investment, finance, and education and training. He urged OECD to help Vietnam to organize the APEC Year 2017 and share information and opinions on global economic issues at international forums.

At the meeting with JETRO Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige, Mr. Phuc said he expected the organization will help forge closer ties between Vietnam and Japan. Mr. Ishige said he wishes to boost trade-investment cooperation between the 2 countries and that JETRO is taking measures to help Japanese companies to invest in Vietnam.
