Vietnam welcomes major Australian firms’ investment, says PM

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam welcomes major Australian firms and investment funds to invest in Vietnam, particularly in renewable energy, infrastructure, digital transformation, aviation, among others,  Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said during a meeting with Australian Governor-General David Hurley in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Mr. Chinh asked Australia to create better conditions for Vietnamese businesses to export farm produce and seafood to the Australian market and invest in areas such as mining, agriculture, aviation and tourism in Australia. He asked Australia to continue providing English training and cooperating with Vietnam to prevent transnational crimes and boost cyber security.

Governor-General Hurley said that Australia will help Vietnam achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and coordinate with Vietnam and Laos to organize a high-level forum between ASEAN and Australia on climate change and energy transition this year.

He added that Australia supports ASEAN’s view on the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea) issue and agrees that parties should make an effort to maintain peace, stability, and navigation and overflight safety, security, and freedom in the East Sea and respect international law.
