Minister Son had a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on Wednesday as part of his three-day visit to co-chair the 4th meeting of the Vietnam-Indonesia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

President Joko Widodo welcomed FM Son’s visit to Indonesia and co-chairing the  Joint Commission’s meeting with FM Retno Marsudi after the two countries just reopened their borders, which he said demonstrate their determination to promote Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership.

President Widodo suggested the two sides consider moving forward to building an Action Program to develop their Strategic Partnerships for 2024-2028, raise bilateral trade turnover to 15 billion USD by 2028, and continue to promote economic cooperation and connection and people-to-people exchanges.

Minister Son said he hopes that the Indonesian President will support trade growth in a more balanced direction; soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade cooperation for the next 4 years; provide technical support and create favorable conditions for Halal products of Vietnamese origin to be consumed in the Indonesian market; consider opening new routes connecting tourist destinations between the two countries; and continue close coordination to effectively handle problems arising at sea.
