The online meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and India.
Minister Son said that, in a fast-changing world, the MGC needs to help members improve their competitiveness and develop sustainably.
He proposed several solutions including promoting economic links between Mekong countries and India, ensuring a green and sustainable future for future generations through a cooperative response to challenges in food-water-energy security; technology transfer and investment in clean, and renewable energy. Other solutions are mobilizing resources for energy transition, and promoting people-to-people exchanges to strengthen friendship and partnership between MGC members.
The meeting adopted a Joint Statement and two annexes on coordinating MGC cooperation by sector and establishing an MGC Business Council. The Ministers agreed to hold the next MGC Meeting in 2024.
