The automatic visa extension policy was put in place after Vietnam closed its border in March 2020 in response to the emergence of coronavirus.

Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam has resumed regular flights to Bangkok, Phnom Penh, San Francisco, Seoul, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Tokyo, and Vientiane.
