(VOVworld) – A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc will take part in the Universal Periodical Review (UPR), the 2
nd cycle, of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, from February 2 to 9. Vietnam’s participation in the event aims to highlight the country’s efforts and achievements in the renewal process to develop democracy and ensure human rights. This also shows Vietnam’s progress in improving external affairs openly and sincerely that are based on cooperation with all countries including those with differences to enhance mutual understanding and share experiences in ensuring human rights.

Vietnam started to implement the UPR mechanism for the first time in May 2009 and received 123 recommendations. The country has so far accepted 96 recommendations. Vietnam’s response to UPR recommendations is shown in the country’s efforts in completing the legal systems and policies to protect human rights and rights of vulnerable groups, reduce poverty, develop the economic sustainability, ensure social security, and improve health care and education.
