At a working session with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi on Monday, the Deputy Prime Minister said to realize the project to develop 1 million ha of low-emission high-quality rice in Vietnam, it’s necessary to create breakthrough policies on carbon credit systems and regulations for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emission reduction.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment are engaged in a pilot policy on results-based carbon credits and using the revenue to support farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises engaged in the project.

"We need to approve the project prior to the forthcoming Winter-Spring crop. At the same time, we need to accelerate the World Bank-funded program on the modernization of production infrastructure," Mr. Quang said.
