(VOVWORLD) - More people in Vietnam will be vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as new shipments of AstraZeneca vaccines arrive in the next few days.

The Health Ministry said Vietnam will receive the first batch of more than 1.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines on Thursday from COVAX Facility, a global vaccine supply initiative led by the WHO. COVAX Facility has pledged 30 million doses for Vietnam.

By the end of April, Vietnam is expected to get more than 4.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the global program.

More than 32,000 people in Vietnam have been injected with AstraZeneca vaccine so far. Priority is given to frontline medical workers and volunteers in the fight against COVID-19.
