(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Industry and Trade on Sunday said that it wants to cut electricity prices 10% for April, May, and June to help citizens and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will gather opinions from other ministries and sectors before issuing an official decision.

According to the Ministry’s calculations, the savings to electricity consumers would be about 500 million USD. Under the current proposal, the reduction rate will depend on electricity consumption in 4 tiers, the lowest tier being monthly consumption of less than 300 kWh.

Quarantine facilities and facilities housing confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients will be exempt from paying any electricity bill. Facilities that provide medical examinations, testing, or treatment for COVID-19 will receive a 20% discount.
