Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, on May 23 addressed the UN Security Council’s open discussion on strengthening Africa's role in addressing global security and development challenges, which was chaired by Mozambique, the President of the Security Council in May.
Giang said that to solve global problems, the role and voice of African countries cannot be ignored. He urged for a comprehensive review and assessment to improve the effectiveness and reliability of missions, while ensuring respect for the sovereignty of host countries and the need for a comprehensive approach, in which African countries play a central role, while prioritizing addressing the root causes of conflict and underdevelopment.
The Vietnamese Ambassador affirmed that over the past years, Vietnam has continuously strengthened friendly relations and win-win cooperation with many African countries through bilateral, multilateral as well as trilateral cooperation channels. Vietnam has also been actively participating in UN peacekeeping activities, making substantive contributions to maintaining peace, security and creating a stable environment for sustainable development in Africa.
