Vietnam supports African countries’ increased role in addressing global challenges

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam is a steadfast supporter of comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council and believes that it’s necessary to increase the number of seats in the Security Council expanded for African countries to ensure they are listened to and respected, especially on issues related to the continent itself, said the Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, on May 23 addressed the UN Security Council’s open discussion on strengthening Africa's role in addressing global security and development challenges, which was chaired by Mozambique, the President of the Security Council in May.

Giang said that to solve global problems, the role and voice of African countries cannot be ignored. He urged for a comprehensive review and assessment to improve the effectiveness and reliability of missions, while ensuring respect for the sovereignty of host countries and the need for a comprehensive approach, in which African countries play a central role, while prioritizing addressing the root causes of conflict and underdevelopment.

The Vietnamese Ambassador affirmed that over the past years, Vietnam has continuously strengthened friendly relations and win-win cooperation with many African countries through bilateral, multilateral as well as trilateral cooperation channels. Vietnam has also been actively participating in UN peacekeeping activities, making substantive contributions to maintaining peace, security and creating a stable environment for sustainable development in Africa.
