According to Ambassador Quy, a majority of countries considered Vietnam’s Chairmanship a success because Vietnam lived up to their expectations by enabling the Security Council’s substantive discussions to solve global problems and respond promptly to emerging problems.

“Vietnam raised issues that had not been discussed or cared for by the Security Council for a long time, but are emerging now, such as landmines, cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations, and protecting infrastructure essential to the lives of civilians in conflict zones. The international appreciation was very high and Vietnam opened up discussions to many participants from UN member countries to civil organizations and scholars. They said Vietnam was the first country to hold unofficial meetings: two meetings at the UN and today is the month's review.”

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy said Vietnam will continue to work harder to ensure that its term of non-permanent membership of the Security Council will be a success.

“There are 8 months left, we must continue our duty and contribute to the performance of the Security Council to preserve international peace and security and to solve problems in our region like the Myanmar situation, North Korea and other issues. So, Vietnam must play a role and have a say. At the same time, we must also complete activities outside the Security Council and activities of the committees and the General Assembly."

"We must continue our motto "proactive, active, responsible" now, in the subsequent months, and even after we leave the Security Council,” said Ambassador Quy.
