Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung addressed the meeting

He said Vietnam needs to reduce its use of fossil fuels, increase renewable energy, and boost energy saving technologies. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Vietnam is facing a huge energy challenge as it is set to import 80 million tons of coal by 2030: “Saving energy will help Vietnam reduce energy imports, focus on renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Ministry of Industry and Trade and localities should revise the law and sublegal documents. Energy users should be more responsible and energy efficiency should be made mandatory.”

The meeting also proposed to place a cap on energy use for sectors that consume too much energy and help businesses renovate their technologies.
