A Vietnam Airlines flight carrying nearly 200 Vietnamese people from Europe landed at Da Nang International Airport in central Vietnam on Saturday.

The passengers included students under the age of 18, seniors, tourists whose visas had expired, and workers who had lost their jobs.

The same day, another 345 Vietnamese citizens arrived in Hanoi, flying from Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C. in the US.

They included elderly people, those with illnesses, people under 18, students without accommodation due to school closures, those stranded because of flight suspension, and some with particularly disadvantaged backgrounds. They were from various states in the US.

This was the second flight to repatriate citizens from the US. The first one brought back 340 citizens on May 8, making history as Vietnam’s first direct flight to and from the US.

All the latest passengers from Europe and the US were quarantined on arrival and their samples have been taken for testing.

Civil aviation authorities have said around 4,300 more will be repatriated on 15 special flights by mid-June.
