(VOVWORLD) - Over the past decade, Vietnam's pepper industry has grown in area and output, said Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, at an international conference in Dak Lak province on Wednesday.

Phu said Vietnam remains the world’s largest pepper producer and exporter, with exports this year estimated at 220,000 tons, accounting for 55% of the world’s total pepper production.

Although it has asserted its position in the global market, it needs specific solutions to maintain its advantage, he said.

“First, Vietnam needs to conform to international standards. Second, it’s necessary to apply technologies to production management, tracing of origin, and customer information that will be used for marketing. Third, a strategic direction is needed for rebuilding its image, strengthening its presence in key markets, and measuring the effectiveness of new products in high-end markets,” said Phu.
