Vietnam ready to protect citizens as Sudan conflicts continue

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam said on Thursday it is monitoring the situation in Sudan and is ready to protect its citizens in Sudan if needed, deputy spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Doan Khac Viet said at a regular press conference on Thursday.

“The Vietnamese embassy in Egypt, which also covers Sudan, has reported that one person with dual Vietnamese and Australian citizenship is living in the capital city of Khartoum. 16 other Vietnamese citizens are crewmembers of a ship docked at a port in Sudan," said Mr. Viet.

"All of them are currently safe. The Embassy is keeping a close watch on the situation and is ready to implement citizen protection measures if necessary.”

The fighting that broke out in Sudan last Saturday has killed at least 270 people and wounded more than 1,800.
