A Vietnamese representative made the point in a speech delivered at the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday where delegates discussed violence against children and children caught in armed conflicts. Vietnam praised the efforts of UN Special Representatives, UN agencies, and the community to protect children, highlighting the importance of preventive strategies and measures to minimize conflicts, examine violations of children’s rights in war time, and reduce the amount of armed conflicts on children. The Vietnamese representative said violence against and ill-treatment of children should be severly punished, calling on governments to reform their legal systems, and establish action plans and policies to protect children’s rights.
