Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), made that pledge at a plenary session of the 108th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday. He said earlier this month, the Vietnamese National Assembly passed a resolution approving Vietnam’s accession to the ILO’s Convention 98 on the application of principles of the right to organise and bargain collectively. Vietnam’s social partners, with the assistance of the ILO, are working on the amendment of the Labour Code, making it match national socio-economic development.

Besides, Vietnam is reforming its social security system and wage policy, towards harmonious, stable and progressive labour relations, the official said, noting that during the process, the country has received efficient technical support from the ILO.  Minister Dung called for more support from the organisation and its members in reforming domestic labour laws, especially policies regarding social insurance and labour relations, and in ratifying ILO conventions, particularly basic ones. 

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Dung had a working session with ILO Deputy Director General for Policy Deborah Greenfield, who applauded Vietnam’s ratification of Convention 98 and its amendment to the Labour Code. The two sides committed to enhancing cooperation to help Vietnam complete its policy system on labour and social insurance. 

On this occasion, Minister Dung and Minister of Human Resources of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli signed a memorandum of understanding on labour cooperation.
