He noted that Vietnam has sent personnel to the UN peacekeeping forces since 2014 and has made an active contribution. It deployed a Level-2 field hospital to the UN Mission in South Sudan for the first time in October 2018. So far Vietnam has sent 75 officers, 16 of them female, to the peacekeeping force, ranking 62nd among UN member states.
Vietnamese peacekeepers are performing duties with the UN missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
Vietnam has pledged to deploy personnel soon to the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei, a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan.

Lacroix said Vietnam’s Level-2 field hospital in South Sudan has played an important role in the success of the UN Mission in South Sudan.
He also praised the Vietnamese officers’ professionalism, dedication, effort, and sacrifice while performing their duties in a difficult environment, and expressed his sympathy for the death of Lt. Col. Do Anh, who died this year while working for the UN mission in the Central African Republic.
