(VOVworld)-A Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia ministerial meeting opened in Hanoi Thursday to work out measures against drug trafficking. The event attracted more than 90 delegates who work in the field of drug prevention and control. Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that the Government of Vietnam has paid due attention to combating illicit drugs and drug-related crime. As a result, the number of drug users has declined remarkably, while drug production areas have been gradually eliminated: “This is a major forum for us to review difficulties and map out solutions to help each other and promote drug control in the 3 countries. It will strengthen cooperation in controlling illicit drugs and mutual support in dealing with drug-related crime.”
The delegates suggested comprehensive cooperation among regional countries in realising the ASEAN work plan on combating illicit drug production, manufacture trafficking and abuse with a view to developing a drug-free ASEAN community by 2015.
