Vietnam joins UNSC discussion on situation in Lebanon, Sudan

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the UN, said that providing relief for Lebanese civilians should be the top priority, and called on the international community to increase humanitarian aid to Lebanon.

Ambassador Quy made the statement at an online meeting held by the UN Security Council on Tuesday to discuss the current situation in Lebanon and activities of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The ambassador said that in the current circumstance, UNIFIL has an even more essential role in ensuring regional security and stability and helping Lebanon weather a difficult period.

Regarding the recent situation in Darfur of Sudan, Ambassador Quy underscored the Sudanese Government’s role in ensuring security in Darfur, praised its response to recent violence, and called for the root causes of the violence to be resolved.
