Vietnam introduces opening for signature of Hanoi Convention at UN

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam introduced the opening for the signing ceremony for the landmark Hanoi Convention against Cybercrime at the United Nations headquarters on Monday, as part of the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80).

The event, jointly held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Public Security and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is themed “The Road to Ha Noi: Opening for Signature of the UN Convention against Cybercrime - Honoring Multilateralism for a Safe Digital Future”.

In his opening remarks, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said that Vietnam, as the host country of the Convention, hopes that the event will become a new milestone in strengthening multilateralism and global cooperation against cyber security threats. Vietnam pledges to continue to support countries towards the effective ratification and enforcement of the Convention.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung, Deputy Minister of Public Security, affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to ensuring cyber security and fighting high-tech crimes. It will prioritize fine-tuning the domestic legal system to match the Convention and strengthen the inter-sectoral coordination in signing, ratifying and implementing the Convention.
