Vietnam strengthens legal framework for crime prevention and criminal justice, says Deputy FM

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is exerting efforts to improve its legal framework for criminal justice and strengthen international cooperation in crime prevention, said Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang at the 34th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ34) held in Vienna, Austria on Monday.

Hang emphasized Vietnam's initiative to host the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention, saying it underscored Vietnam’s commitment to being an active and responsible member of the international community. The Deputy Minister also officially announced that the Convention’s signing ceremony will take place in Hanoi in October this year, with President Luong Cuong and UN Secretary-General António Guterres expected to co-chair the event.

As part of the session's activities, the Vietnamese delegation held a bilateral meeting with the Director-General of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to discuss preparations for the Convention’s signing ceremony and explore new initiatives to advance Vietnam–UNODC cooperation in crime prevention.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang met with Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The two sides reviewed the Vietnam–IAEA cooperation and discussed several proposals to support Vietnam in developing a legal framework, policy consultation, technology transfer, experience sharing, and human resource development.
