This view has been concertized in socio-economic development strategies and plans, and also institutionalized in the Constitution and laws, whereby human rights and citizens rights to political, civil, economic, cultural and social issues are recognized, respected, protected and guaranteed according to the Constitution and laws, he added.
As an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam has seriously and fully implemented its international commitments on human rights, and made efforts to promote human rights both domestically and globally, the FM said.
Vietnam's election to the United Nations Human Rights Council affirms the Party and State's correct and consistent policy and stance on special importance and effective promotion of the human factor in national development, closely linking economic growth with cultural and human development, ensuring social progress and justice.
It also affirms the great achievements we have achieved in exercising the people's right to mastery, respecting, ensuring and protecting human rights and citizens' rights according to the Constitution and the law, FM Son said.
It contributes to the implementation of the foreign policy line set by the 13th National Party Congress. The policy calls for the elevation of multilateral diplomacy to a higher level, active participation and proactive engagement at instrumental multilateral forums of strategic significance, as a channel to further enhance Vietnam's global standing and prestige.
Vietnam's election to the UNHRC stands testimony to Vietnam's tireless efforts in fulfilling its international human rights commitments. More than that, it is also a confirmation of the international community's support, trust and expectation for Vietnam given Vietnam's important and responsible contributions to the advancement of human rights worldwide, according to FM Son.
On Wednesday, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink who is on a working visit to Vietnam, congratulated Vietnam on being elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council.
He said he hopes that Vietnam will be a partner with the United States in promoting universal human rights and solving human rights challenges facing the world. The United States expects Vietnam to fulfill its obligations in terms of international human rights commitments, he said.
