At the session, Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, called on the Security Council to take a comprehensive approach, put people at the center, and focus on the root causes of conflict to escape the vicious cycle of underdevelopment, inequality, injustice, and violence.

Nguyen also said that the Security Council needs to more effectively use available tools such as preventive diplomacy, conciliation, and peaceful dispute resolution based on the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, and should prioritize trust-building and early warning mechanisms.

He said Vietnam has taken steps to increase the leadership role and participation of women at all levels of management and is committed to increasing the participation and contribution of Vietnamese women in United Nations peacekeeping activities. He said addressing youth-related issues like education, employment, and welfare is a key to preventing extremism and violence.
