Addressing a workshop organized in Hanoi by UNFPA Asia and the Pacific, Andersson described the country's track record on the work as "very good", adding that many good practices have emerged.

He spoke highly of Vietnam’s policy and legislative reform, the Law on Population and the Law on Social Insurance, and innovative programs like the fatherhood program, saying they have made Vietnam a model for good practice for the purposes of south-south collaboration.

Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of promoting gender equality considering it a focal task for the national socio-economic development strategy.

The workshop centered around south-south consultation  on addressing son preference, undervaluing of girls, and gender-biased sex selections.
