During their talks in Hanoi on Monday, Ms. Ngan expressed her wish for Haiti’s support in resolving the East Sea issue via peaceful means, including diplomatic and legal processes, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. She appreciated Haiti’s opening an embassy in Hanoi, saying that the Vietnamese National Assembly backs opening a Vietnamese embassy in Haiti when conditions are favorable.

Haitian Senate President Youri Latortue called on Vietnam to provide Haiti with technical support in agriculture, boost bilateral affiliation in telecommunications, pour more investments into Haiti, and share experience in gender equality. He said Haiti and 14 other countries in the Caribbean region highly respect rule of the law regarding the East Sea issue.

The two legislative leaders agreed to increase the exchange of high-ranking delegations, commissions and parliamentarians, and close cooperation in inter-parliamentary forums.
